GRU.A

gru.a is an office based in Rio de Janeiro. Since its formation in 2013, it has been developing projects and works of different scales and natures, with special interest in the intersection between the fields of architecture and the visual arts. Parallel to office practice, gru.a partners dedicate themselves to academic research and teaching activities. Over the past few years, the crane has designed projects and works for cultural centres, artistic installations, theatres, exhibitions, residences, institutions in the health area, interventions in protected assets, among others.

The office has had its work recognized through several awards and competitions, of which the following stand out: 1st place in the National Design Competition for the building collection of the Casa de Rui Barbosa Foundation; 1st place in the Instituto Tomie Othake Akzonobel Annual Award; 1st place in the Reynaldo Roels Jr Award for artistic installations. The firm has participated in shows, exhibitions and festivals such as the Venice Architecture Biennial (Brazil Pavilion, 2018) and the Ibero-American Architecture Biennial (2019). In 2019 gru.a was selected among the 10 finalists for the DEBUT award, awarded by the Lisbon Architecture Triennale (2019).
